α-Select Bacteriophage T1-Resistant Silver Competent Cells are directly comparable to DH5α cells. They contain a lacZ marker that provides α-complementation of the ß-galactosidase gene for blue/white color screening. They are ideal for construction of gene banks or for the generation of cDNA libraries using plasmid-derived vectors. α-Select Gold Competent Cells also provide recA1 and endA1 markers to minimize recombination and enhance the quality of the plasmid DNA, allowing efficient transformation even with large plasmids.

Many laboratories have experienced bacteriophage T1 outbreaks, as T1 attacks E. coli and spreads rapidly. α-Select Bacteriophage T1-Resistant Silver Competent Cells are designed to protect samples from bacteriophage infection.

pUC19 DNA is also provided as a positive control.
