Kanamycin is an aminoglycoside bacteriocidal antibiotic that binds to 70S ribosomal subunits, which inhibits ribosomal translocation and causes miscoding. Antibacterial spectrum includes mycobacteria, many gram-positive and most gram-negative organisms.

Features & Benefits

  • Ready-to-use solution - no sterile filtration required
  • Stable - store at -20°C for up to 12 months
  • Simple - avoids handling of toxic or harmful substances

Applications

  • Cell culture
  • Plasmid selection
  • Gene regulation

Description

Kanamycin belongs to the aminoglycoside class of antibiotics that contain two or more aminosugars connected by glycosidic bonds. It acts as an inhibitor of protein biosynthesis. Kanamycin that binds to 70S ribosomal subunits, which inhibits ribosomal translocation and causes miscoding. Kanamycin has a broad antibacterial spectrum including mycobacteria, many gram-positive and most gram-negative organisms. Kanamycin resistance is mediated by aminoglycoside phosphotransferase (kan gene), which inactivates kanamycin by phosphorylation.
