| What Is High Resolution Melt (HRM™) Analysis? |
| |
| High Resolution Melt is a new analysis method for characterising nucleic acid samples according to their strand dissociation (melt) behaviour. The melt behaviour of a sequence is dependent on its base content. HRM™ analysis therefore allows samples to be identified according to base composition, GC content and length and it can even detect Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs).
For these reasons, the technique can be employed in many different areas of scientific research, including mutation studies, epigenetic profiling and DNA fingerprinting.

| Different Classes Of SNP |
| |
|
The types of SNP have been classified into 4 groups, classes 1-4, as shown in Table 1. The ability to resolve the SNP becomes more difficult through classes 1 to 4. This is due to the Tm difference becoming less and hence the shifts in the melt curve become smaller and more difficult to resolve.
