The ISOLATE II Biofluids RNA Kit is specially developed for the rapid isolation of high quality total RNA from cell-free biofluids and viruses. High yields of total RNA can be purified from blood (fig. 1), plasma, serum and other types of biofluids such as saliva, urine, semen and cerebrospinal fluid. Viral RNA can be isolated from the same sample sources, as well as cultured cells and tissue. The kit isolates all sizes of RNA from large mRNA, viral RNA and ribosomal RNA down to small RNAs such as miRNA and siRNA. The ISOLATE II Biofluids RNA Kit is compatible with very limited, or challenging sample sources containing low RNA content.
Isolation is based on a fast spin column format using a novel RNA affinity silica as the separation matrix. RNA molecules are preferentially purified from other cellular components such as proteins without the use of phenol or chloroform.
Samples are first lysed in the presence of guanidinium thiocyanate, a chaotropic salt which immediately deactivates endogenous RNases to ensure purification of intact RNA. DNA is then captured on a Genomic DNA Removal Column to remove contaminating genomic DNA. Ethanol is added to the flow-through and then applied to a RNA Column. The bound total RNA is washed to remove any impurities and eluted.
The purified RNA is of the highest purity and integrity and is ready for use in various applications, including Real-Time RT-PCR, RT-PCR, cDNA synthesis, RNA-seq and microarrays.

The DNase I Solution should be stored at -20°C upon arrival. All other components should be stored dry and at room temperature.
When stored under the recommended conditions and handled correctly, full activity of reagents is retained until the expiry date indicated on the outer box label.
